Top 3 stories to watch in NW Philly

Here’s a look at what’s coming up this week on NewsWorks:

1. More than 200 Manayunk and Roxborough residents packed into Mishkan Shalom Synagogue in April to learn more about the possibility of bringing a food cooperative to the area. After months of planning, the group is ready to continue the discussion and talk about the iniative’s future.

2. Bakers Square, a “community shopping center” near East Falls, is quickly taking shape at the corner of Fox and Roberts streets. The 30-acre complex‘s anchor, a Brown’s Shop-Rite, is scheduled is be finished in June with other tenants not far behind. On Thursday, officials will hold a community meeting to discuss the project’s progress.

3. On Jan. 2, Philadelphia Police Officer James Timms was arrested following an alleged altercation involving his wife and daughter inside their Germantown home. Timms, who was off-duty at the time, was suspended for 30 days with intent to dismiss. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
