The search intensified for Shane Montgomery in mid-December when a nail salon released surveillance footage showing the 21-year-old walking towards the Manayunk canal after leaving the Main Street bar where he was last seen.
Days later, Montgomery’s uncle reached out to the Garden State Underwater Recover Unit, a volunteer underwater search-and-rescue squad headquartered in Milford, New Jersey — a small town on the banks of the Delaware River about 50 miles from Philadelphia. Here’s more on the unit.
