Top 4 stories to watch for in NW Philly

Here’s a look at what’s to come:

1. Since January, Bradley Maule has been hunting down trash in the Wissahickon Valley Park. It’s all part of a yearlong effort the Mt. Airy resident has aptly dubbed, “One Man’s Trash.” He and city officials are hoping his collection will help change people’s attitudes towards littering. Check back next week to learn more.

2. After more than two years, Queen Lane Apartments in Germantown is finally scheduled to come down to make way for a new low-rise development. The project was delayed after the Philadelphia Housing Authority agreed to protect a colonial-era burial ground beneath the site. Most neighbors and PHA officials couldn’t be happier, though, that the tower is being demolished and construction will soon be underway. Check back next week for more details..

3. “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner?” — Mt. Airy USA’s annual fundraiser — took place Saturday. This year’s event was held inside the Sedgwick Theater and among others, featured drag diva Martha Graham Cracker, restaurateur Aimee Oxley and Project Runway alum Kristin Haskins-Simms. 4. On Friday night, The East Falls Community Council held its 12th annual Chili Cook-Off event inside Thomas Mifflin Elementary School. Five hundred dollars worth of prizes were handed out to competitors who cooked meat and vegetarian chili as well as side dishes. Check back next week for more details.
