Suburban football players to compete in an ice cream competition Saturday

Saturday, football players from Methacton, Upper Merion, Norristown, Phoenixville, Perkiomen Valley and Spring-Ford high schools will compete in something a little softer than football. They will go head-to-head at Zwahlen’s Ice Cream & Chocolate Co.’s very first ice cream eating contest, the Mercury Reports.

The team who scarfs down the cold dessert first will receive a $500 reward, as well as the honor of having a flavor named after them to be served in November. There will also be second, third, and fourth place prizes, of $300, $150, and $75.

Those who wish to view the competition can from 3 to 5 p.m. in the side parking lot of Zwahlen’s in Audubon.

Co-owner Marty Low told the Mercury, “That’s the nature of who we are — we’re focused on family, and this is one way to get families and kids involved in something together…And this is a great social thing, for the teams, their parents and friends, and the teams have an opportunity to raise quite a bit of money.”
