Some congressional primary races heating up in Pa.

This year’s campaigns for Pennsylvania’s 18 seats in the U.S. House may be overshadowed by the gubernatorial race, but the congressional contests are heating up.

Republicans want to build upon their 13-seat majority. Democrats are determined to shift the balance in their favor and closer to the 12-seat majority they had won only six years ago.

Only two seats are up for grabs. Democratic Rep. Allyson Schwartz is running for governor and not seeking re-election in the 13th District, in parts of Philadelphia and Montgomery County, and Rep. Jim Gerlach plans to retire after this term in southeastern Pennsylvania’s 6th District.

Franklin & Marshall College pollster G. Terry Madonna says he doesn’t expect any incumbents to be defeated in the May 20 primary or the general election.
