Friday, September 7-Sunday, September 9. It’s a full weekend all about bees and honey.On Friday learn about beekeeping and taste honey and mead at The Wagner Free Institute of Science, on Saturday visit Wyck Historic House and Garden to learn about the long history of beekeeping in Philadelphia and bees in the wild, and spend Sunday at Bartram’s Garden for cooking demos, tastings, a children’s festival, and a visit from the 2012 Pennsylvania Honey Queen. Secret Cinema @ Eastern State Penitentiary
Friday, September 7, 8pm, doors at 7pm. Eastern State Penitentiary, 22nd and Fairmount. The Secret Cinema returns to Eastern State to screen We Who Are About to Die, a feature film from 1937 based on the true story of a wrongfully convicted death row inmate. Early arrival is suggested as seating is limited. The Audience will also be permitted to explore Eastern State’s museum exhibits. $10, buy tickets online.
South Philly Garden Tour
Saturday, September 8, 1-5pm. Check-in begins at 12:30pm at Urban Jungle, 1526 East Passyunk Avenue. Check out 20 backyards and community gardens throughout South Philly as part of this self-guided, ticketed event. Proceeds from ticket sales support the South Philly Food Co-Op. Pick up your map at Urban Jungle starting at 12:30pm and after exploring, tour participants are invited to the Cantina (East Passyunk Ave and Morris St.) for more socializing along with drink specials. Tickets may be bought at Urban Jungle (1526 East Passyunk Ave.), Ultimo (1900 South 15th St.), Grindcore House (1515 South 4th St.), or online. Advance tickets cost $20, Day-of tickets are $25.
