Scam alert: Man impersonating tow-truck driver in West. Mt Airy

The Philadelphia Police are warning Mt. Airy residents to be alert for scam involving a man claiming to be a tow-truck driver. 14th District Police Captain Joel Dales issued this alert yesterday:

“A tall male with a beard is reportedly posing as a tow truck operator and scamming residents. According to the complainants, the male knocked on their door and said their neighbor was hospitalized after being involved in an auto accident. The scammer then told the complainants he towed their neighbor’s car home and wanted to leave the keys with them. The scammer usually asks the victim to pay for the towing fees,” Dales stated.

To submit a tip via telephone, dial 215.686.TIPS (8477) or text a tip to PPD TIP or 773847.
