Robbery suspect shot at McNally’s in Mayfair

A robbery suspect was shot last night in Mayfair at Rowland Avenue and Brighton Street.

According to reports, a man ordered a drink at McNally’s Tavern around 11 p.m., was turned away when he didn’t have ID. The male returned with two companions, all wearing hoodies to hide their faces.

With guns pointed at two off-duty officers in the bar, the men stole a small amount of money and one of the officer’s badges. The second officer fired at the men inside the bar, then proceeded to chase them.

The officer, who used a personal weapon, not his department-issued gun, told authorities he fired several more times during the pursuit, but that the offenders got away.

A male fitting the description of one of the suspects later turned up at Einstein Medical Center with a bullet wound in his chest matching the officer’s gun.

Police believe they have the other suspects in custody following a traffic stop. The stolen police badge has not been returned, and the officer who fired his gun is on desk duty until an investigation can be complete.
