Remembering fallen State Police Troopers

State Police will dedicate a memorial to members of Troop 5 who paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect and serve Delaware’s residents.

Those troopers being remembered today include Trooper Gerard Dowd and Sandra Wagner. Dowd was killed in 1990 at the age of 28 when his patrol car collided with a tractor trailer. He was on his way to assist a fellow officer investigating a fight in progress at the time of his death. Wagner was the first female State Trooper to die in the line of duty when she was killed in 1996 at the age of 28. She was killed while trying to stop a speeding driver on Route 404 near Bridgeville.
