Reinstated firefighter takes his own life

Not too long ago, John “Jack” Slivinski Jr. made headlines for posing in front of a Center City fountain for a firefighters calendar. Saturday, the Philadelphia firefighter was found dead in his home near the Burholme/Fox Chase border.

Slivinski was discovered in his home on the 7800-block of Lawndale Avenue; authorities have ruled his death a suicide.

The 31-year-old was temporarily suspended from his duties in April after he posed shirtless for a charity calendar. Commissioner Lloyd Ayers later reinstated Slivinski to his post in Northern Liberties.

Further details surrounding Slivinski’s death have not yet been revealed.
