Police officer in Camden County escapes serious injury in hit-and-run crash [Photos]

Authorities are searching for a sport utility vehicle that they say collided with a police cruiser in southern New Jersey and then fled the scene.

Waterford police say officer Darren Carrero suffered some bumps and minor bruises in Friday afternoon’s crash but was back at work on Saturday.

The crash occurred around 5:40 p.m. in the area of 3rd and Raritan Avenue in the Camden County community. The impact caused the police car to flip over, and witnesses say the SUV had heavy front-end damage.

Authorities say they have developed some leads in the matter, but declined further comment Saturday.
