Police: Fight inside West Oak Lane club leads to fatal shooting outside

A 30-year-old West Oak Lane man was killed when an apparent altercation inside a club near his home turned into a fatal shooting outside early Saturday.

On Sunday, police identified the victim of the shooting outside Whispers Lounge, located at 7600 Ogontz Ave., as Dijion Bowie of the 2300 block of 78th Ave.

Police said a warrant has been issued for the alleged offender, who they have not yet publicly identified.

At around 1:15 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a radio call regarding a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Bowie “suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the shoulder,” according to police reports. He was then taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:29 a.m.

Bowie, who pleaded guilty to drug offenses and an unrelated “reckless burning or exploding places property having value that exceeds $5000 or automobile” case in 2008, was awaiting a June trial on unlicensed gun-possession charges.
