Philly office clarifies mission with new name — Homeless Services
ListenPhiladelphia’s Office of Supportive Housing has a new name, but the same mission.
From now on, the agency will be known as the Office of Homeless Services.
The name change is for clarity, explained Liz Hersh, who leads the office.
“We think this name is easier for people to understand,” she said Monday. “We think it makes it more transparent to the public and signals a fresh start in our approach to tackling homelessness.”
Philadelphia is rethinking its entire approach to helping more people leave the streets behind, Hersh said. “That ranges from prevention to early intervention to street outreach to emergency assistance to rapid rehousing to permanent housing.”
The main goal is to decrease the incidence and duration of homelessness.
