Overdose death added to Bucks doctor’s charges in pill mill case
A Philadelphia-area doctor already charged with trading painkillers for cash and sex is facing new charges that include an overdose death.
Federal prosecutors say members of the Pagan motorcycle gang helped distribute oxycodone and other drugs obtained through Dr. William O’Brien III.
The Pagans are among 10 new defendants charged in the case Thursday.
The latest indictment charges O’Brien in the December 2013 overdose death of a buyer who took oxycodone, methadone and a muscle relaxant obtained through his Levittown office.
The 50-year-old O’Brien has been in custody since his arrest in January.
He is also charged with hiding cash he received from patients from the court overseeing his medical firm’s 2010 bankruptcy.
O’Brien’s lawyer, Gregory Pagano, says he plans to fight the charges at a trial scheduled for September.
