Newtown shootings and American attitudes toward gun control

In their weekly conversation NewsWorks Tonight host Dave Heller and Gallup Poll Editor-in-Chief Frank Newport discuss if President Barack Obama is correct in saying that most Americans support controls of assault weapons, high capacity ammunition clips, and background checks.

They also look at previous data and one new poll since last Friday, that show Americans are not convinced that gun control will be highly effective in preventing new tragedies.

Also in their discussion, Newport reports that U.S. economic confidence has been moderately higher since the week ending Oct. 28, compared with the weeks from June until then, and the current weekly score remains one of the best of the year.
