Newark police make more arrests in University of Delaware party riot

It’s been almost a month since a rowdy crowd on to swarmed Main Street in Newark but police continue to work to identify everyone involved even after additional arrests were announced on Tuesday.

Last month, a crowd of party-goers from a home on S. College Ave. made their way downtown disrupting traffic and even jumping on cars. Two University of Delaware students who hosted the party were immediately arrested.

As a result of tips, five more University of Delaware students of Wilmington face criminal charges from a disorderly crowd incident that took place September 9th. Scott Crosby, 18, Kyle Menchaca, 20, Sean Pie and Mohammed Alam, who are both 19-years old turned themselves into police last Thursday and were charged with disorderly conduct including walking in the street despite access to sidewalks.

Separately police arrested 21-year old Jeffery Taviano while investigating a noise complaint on September 21st. It was then investigators were able to connect Taviano to the September 9th incident in which he faces similar charges as well.  All five students have been released on their recognizance and are expected court in the near future.

Surveillance photos from the incident as well as video of the riot posted on YouTube have helped police with the on-going investigation. In fact, police are looking to identify seven more students, five girls and two guys captured in photos.
