Man to face attempted murder charge in officer shooting

A man is facing an attempted murder charge in a shooting that injured a Philadelphia police bicycle officer.

Police said Friday that 35-year-old William Nobblen of west Philadelphia will also face aggravated assault and firearms counts.

Authorities said Officer Daniel Kostick and his partner approached a drug suspect in a van in west Philadelphia on Thursday night, but he sped off.

Police said Kostick caught up with him a few blocks away, and the suspect said “I don’t want to have to do this” and opened fire, hitting Kostick in the arm. Kostick also fired, hitting the suspect.

Nobblen was apprehended nearby and taken to Hahnemann Hospital; a listed number for him couldn’t be found and it’s unclear whether he has an attorney who could offer comment.
