Man struck, killed while trying to cross Black Horse Pike

Authorities say a man was struck and killed when he tried to cross a southern New Jersey.

Washington Township police say 34-year-old John Thurwanger, of Sewell, was attempting to cross the Black Horse Pike when he was hit around 10:25 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Watson Drive.

Thurwanger was pronounced dead at the scene. The car’s driver, whose name was not released, was not injured.

The Black Horse Pike was closed for nearly three hours following the crash while the investigation took place.
