Lifeguards came to the rescue of four family members who became distressed while swimming in waters off southern New Jersey.

Wildwood authorities say several lifeguards were reporting for work Saturday morning when they heard calls for help coming from the water. They soon found four swimmers, including one person who was unconscious and another who was semi-conscious.

The lifeguards performed CPR on the unconscious swimmer on the beach and were soon able to revive the person. The swimmers – three males and a female who officials say were all members of the same family – were taken to hospitals for evaluation, and all four were expected to survive.

Officials say the incident is an important reminder that people should only enter the water when lifeguards are on duty and present.
