Nearly a dozen horses have perished in a Sunday night barn fire in Hockessin.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s office, the blaze broke out around 8 p.m. inside the barn at the Yorklyn Arabian LLC Stables.

One horse was able to escape, and the owners of the property are missing their dog.

Property damage is estimated at $60,000, not including the value of the horses. Investigators remain on scene and are trying to determine the cause of the fire.
