Former Asbury housing director accused of misconduct

Authorities say the former executive director of the Asbury Park Housing authority used a training grant to give himself a raise and pay personal expenses.

A grand jury in Monmouth County indicted 54-year-old Mark Holmes on official misconduct and other charges.

Prosecutors say Holmes stole more than $75,000 by diverting state grant funds, collecting reimbursements for unauthorized meals and double-dipping on payments while traveling.

The former mayor of Lawrence Township was first arrested on related charges in July 2013.
