February surprise from Knox?
The once and maybe-again mayoral candidate Tom Knox says he’ll have an announcement next week, and a “surprise” is in store.
Which could mean he’s going to enter the Democratic primary against Mayor Nutter, or plan an independent run in the fall, or compete in the Iowa caucuses.
To recap:
Knox made noises last year about running for mayor in 2011 as a Democrat, then for months suggested it was more likely he make a run in the general.
Then earlier this week he was taking a harder look at the Democratic primary again, and he commissioned a poll to assess his chances. As of Thursday, he was looking at preliminary poll results and was leaning toward the general.
Then today (Friday, Feb. 18), Knox told me he’d have an event next week, and people would “be surprised” at what he has to say.
Also, you’ll get a chuckle out of this mayoral campaign nugget from of our friend Chris Brennan of the Daily News blog PhillyClout: someone set up a MyrMiltonStreet Twitter account to have some fun with newly-announced mayoral candidate Milton Street.
Street was released from prison last year after serving a term for failing to file federal income taxes.
A Friday tweet from MyrMiltonStreet: “Taxes are due exactly 2 months from today. Don’t forget to file them. Trust me.”
