Driver fled traffic stop before crash with rowing team bus

Police say the driver of a car involved in a collision with a bus carrying rowing team members from a Pennsylvania university had fled the scene of a traffic stop less than a mile away before the crash.

Trooper Marc Allen said 28-year-old Rodney Sigley Jr., of Bethlehem, had been pulled over Tuesday for following too closely and had no license so he gave the trooper his name and birthdate. Allen says when the trooper went back to his car to run the information, Sigley drove off.

Allen says by the time the trooper caught up with Sigley, the crash had already occurred. Sigley died.

Lehigh University says the 18 students aboard from the men’s and women’s crew teams and the bus driver were treated at hospitals and released.
