Dog of the Week: Murphy

Hi! My name is Murphy! (A15477139) You know, like Drop Kick Murphy’s, Murphy’s Irish Stout or even Murphy’s Law! Two of those things are Irish!

Did you know that St. Patrick’s Day is coming up? Have you heard of the saying, “Kiss Me, I’m Irish”? Well my motto is: “Kiss Me, Pet Me, Love Me, Adopt Me — I’m Irish!” Or we can pretend I am anyway. Want to know a little bit more about me? Great, I cant wait to tell you!

I’m a 1- to 2-year-old terrier mix. I’m a smaller guy weighing in around 45 pounds. I was found walking around all by myself. Can you believe that? Anyway, I’m now living at Animal Care & Control Team.

When I first got here they noticed I had a limp. I made an appointment with the vet and he did some x-rays. He told me I dont have a broken leg and I most likely have a soft tissue tear. I try to look on the bright side –  it gives me a very cute butt wiggle when I walk! With some rest and gradual exercise I should be back to normal in no time.

I have a lot of roommates here and I’m really trying to find a more permanent and less crowded place to call my own. I am looking for a human family to spend the rest of my life with! Humans are awesome!

I like other dogs and don’t even mind cats. If you have a dog, we should get together and see if we hit it off. If you have a cat, let the staff know and they can test me again, just to make sure before I go home with you.

I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky guy. I love snuggling up close and getting pets. I give pretty great hugs too, if I do say so myself! I just joined a program here at the shelter called the Pen Pals. The Pen Pals are super cool and I’m one of them. My PenPal is a human volunteer. She comes to visit me to keep my spirits up while I’m looking for a new home. She takes me on walks, car rides and even brings me yummy snacks! My PenPal is teaching me things too. She is teaching me basic commands so that I can be a great dog in my new home. So far I know “sit” and down.” I know, I know, I think its pretty cool too!

I walk very nicely on an easy walk harness and I’m even a good boy in the bath. I don’t try to jump out at all. I just enjoy the water massages; they are very relaxing!

Since I am a Pen Pal, I come with a pretty sweet deal. My adoption fee is only $25. You get me and my totally awesome silly smile, but that’s not all! My adoption fee includes my neuter surgery, all of my vaccinations and a microchip so if I ever get lost again I can find my way back to you.

If you think you may want to adopt or foster me, the shelter is full so now is the time! I’m going to sign off with one of my favorite Irish sayings:

“May you never steal, lie or cheat.

But if you have to steal, then steal away my sorrows.

If you have to lie, then lie with me all the nights of our life.

If you have to cheat, then cheat death because I don’t want to live a day without you”

You can see more photos of me on Craigslist.
