DelDOT begins realignment process on I-495 bridge
The Delaware Dept. of Transportation is undertaking the realignment of the northbound lanes of the I-495 bridge.
The northbound side of the bridge in Wilmington has a more pronounced tilt than the southbound lanes, which were re-opened at the end of July, and will take extra time to fix.
According to DelDOT, crews will carefully realign the bridge into place over the next few days.
“Progress during this part of the process is measured in fractions of inches and is expected to take several additional days to complete, assuming all goes well,” DelDOT officials said in a release.
Once the realignment is complete, steel bracing will be welded into place and the support towers will be anchored to the ground with steel cables
The project is expected to be completed before Labor Day.
