Delaware officer saves three lives in 24 hours with overdose reversing drug

A Newark police officer saved three individuals from drug overdoses over a 24-hour period over the holidays.

It was a busy  holiday shift for Newark Police Master Corporal Marc Difrancesco. From Christmas Eve to Christmas Day, Difrancesco administered naloxone, the overdose reversing drug carried by paramedics and some police officers, to three individuals in separate incidents, according to the Newark Police Department.

Around 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Difrancesco responded to Suburban Drive in Newark in response to a possible overdose, and found an unresponsive 43-year-old male. He administered naloxone to the man, who became alert shortly thereafter.

Just a couple hours later at 7 p.m. Difrancesco arrived at East Delaware Avenue in Newark to attend to an unresponsive 50 year-old male believed to be suffering from an overdose. He administered two doses of naloxone and revived him.

Around 4:15 p.m. on Christmas Day Difrancesco responded to South College Avenue in Newark to find an unresponsive 60-year-old female who appeared to be suffering from an overdose. She recovered after Difrancesco administered two doses naloxone.

No charges were filed for these incidents, according to the police department. All subjects were transported to Christiana Emergency Room for further evaluation.
