Delaware jobless rate drops almost a percent in a year

Delaware’s unemployment rate is down one percent below the national rate for the month of November.

That reflects a jobless rate of 7.6% or 32,500 unemployed Delawareans.  The rate for October was 7.9%.  Last year at this time the rate was 8.4%.

New Castle and Sussex Counties showed rates of 6.9%.  Wilmington had the highest rate with 10.5%, but even that rate was down 2.2% from November 2010.

Most of job gains in Delaware were in the leisure and hospitality industry with 700 jobs.  The biggest job losses were in state government, down 1,800 people, professional and business services, down 1,400, and retail with 1,000 job losses.
