Gov. Jack Markell is leading a trip to India as part of the Council of State Government’s work to support and improve policies pursued by state administrations and legislatures.

Markell, the current council president, is being joined on the trip by incoming CSG chairman Kelvin Atkinson, a Democratic state senator from Nevada.

The delegation will visit with public officials in India and participate in a U.S.-India Business Council legal services conference.

The Council of State Governments is a forum for fostering the exchange of ideas to help state officials shape public policy.

Administration officials say the council is paying for Markell’s travel.

Markell is scheduled to arrive in India this weekend and will spend just over a week there.
