City Council members get briefing, but no final report on PGW

A handful of Philadelphia City Council members and staffers met with the consultant they hired to analyze selling Philadelphia Gas Works to a private company. Councilman Wilson Goode says the consulting firm has a lot more to do before it can issue a report on the proposed sale to UIL Holdings.

“We are very early in the process, this is just a review of information that is publicly available,” Goode said. “We just went over how the consultants are going to proceed.”

Councilman Mark Squilla says he could not establish a firm date for a final report.

“That’s what we were asking was it going to be 15 days 30 days?” Squilla said. “I don’t think they wanted to give us an actual date at this point. They said they still have a lot of work to do and once that is done they will get back to us with the information.”

The analysis will not include a recommendation of whether to approve or reject the nearly $2 billion deal. Mayor Nutter wants to use proceeds from the sale to refill the city’s pension accounts.
