Bruce Conner Memorial Scholarship for History at Holy Family University
Holy Family University announces the establishment of the Bruce Conner Memorial Scholarship for History. The scholarship honors the memory of Bruce Conner, an alumnus of Holy Family University (class of 1976) and celebrates his passion for history, particularly local history. It will be awarded annually to one or more students majoring in history who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students involved in local history initiatives and activities.
Initial funding for the scholarship is being provided by the Trustees of Lower Dublin Academy, a local charitable organization established in 1794 to support educational activities. Friends of Bruce Conner and of Northeast Philadelphia history are encouraged to donate to the scholarship fund as well.
Bruce Conner was a local historian and activist who died in March 2011 from injuries sustained in an auto accident. Despite being severely handicapped from the age of seventeen as a result of a swimming accident, Bruce lived a full life. He was particularly interested and active in the history of Northeast Philadelphia. He was involved in many local historical organizations and was well-loved in the Northeast Philadelphia historical community.
Those interested in supporting the Bruce Conner Memorial Scholarship for History are encouraged to do so by making a contribution. Please send a check payable to Holy Family University at the address below. Please write “Bruce Conner Scholarship” in the memo field on the check. All donations are tax-deductible.
