As Univ. of Delaware students return, police ready to eject party crashers

Newark Police say they’re ready to help homeowners evict unwanted party guests.

A big part of the return of University of Delaware students to Newark is the return of the town’s house party scene.  Because sometimes even willing party hosts see the number of party guests exceed capacity, Newark Police want people to know they can help.

Because some party-throwers are hesitant to call the police to get unwanted guests to leave for fear of getting in trouble for breaking the noise ordinance or other violations, Newark PD issued a statement announcing that “party hosts requesting police assistance in such incidents will not be subject to the same enforcement action taken when a complaint is received from an independent caller.”

Police say they hope removing the threat of enforcement will convince party hosts to call for help before the situation escalates into a serious problem.  They also recommend against hosting an “open-door” party because that gives opportunity to criminals who want to victimize the host and/or other guests.
