Police commissioner: Go about your normal business

During this time of heightened alert, Philadelphia police are keeping a close eye on potential terrorist targets in the city.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said after word of Osama bin Laden’s killing came from the president Sunday night, he put a plan in motion to keep watch on sites that could be a target in Philadelphia.

“Primarily mosques, synagogues, other critical infrastructure around the city,” Ramsey said. “We held it until an official announcement by the president. Once that came out, then of course it was broadcast citywide. So just in case we had any issues, we would be prepared to deal with it.”

The commissioner said the checks are nothing but a precaution.

“People should go about their normal business. That’s an important message, they should go about their normal business,” said Ramsey. “There are no threats to Philadelphia or any city I am aware of. This is simply a precaution … cities across the country are doing the same thing.”

The commissioner would not say how long the extra measures will last.
