The Conflict in Crimea

March 6, 2014

Guests: Will Englund, Cory Welt, Julia Ioffe

The crisis in Ukraine continues to heat up as President Putin shows no signs of withdrawing his troops from Crimea. Russian forces went in after pro-democracy protests in Kiev led to the ouster of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. The European Union and the United States have threatened Putin with sanctions but yesterday’s talks between Secretary of State John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov failed to lead to any resolution. Today, Washington Post foreign correspondent WILL ENGLUND fills us in on the latest news from Russian and Ukraine. Then, Marty talks with CORY WELT, Associate Research Professor of International Affairs at the George Washington University, and JULIA IOFFE, Senior editor at the New Republic, about the conflict and its foreign policy implications.
