Superman and why his story still resonates

This year marks the 75th anniversary of Superman’s arrival on the scene to fight for truth, justice and the American way. Since 1938, his story has been chronicled in comic books and on radio, television, and film. The latest iteration of the Superman story is the new movie “Man of Steel,” which earned $125 million dollars at the box office in its first weekend and is lining it up to be the year’s highest-grossing film. What is it about Superman that continues to resonate and what is it about the character and his escapades that appeals to filmmakers, television writers and comic book artists?
