Examining the Cracks in Our Nation’s Infrastructure
Listen
Hour 1
In a new report on the state of the nation’s bridges, Pennsylvania ranked No. 1 for having the most decrepit bridges in the country – 26.5 percent are “structurally deficient.” Last year, the American Society of Civil Engineers also gave the keystone state poor marks on infrastructure. Our roads got a barely passing grade of D-. But Pennsylvania isn’t the only state with deteriorating bridges and crumbling roads; infrastructure around the country is ailing. Today we’ll look at the condition of the nation’s infrastructure, the effect it’s having on our economy, and what we should do about it. Our guests are PETER SWAN, an Assistant Professor of Logistics and Operations Management at Penn State Harrisburg School of Business Administration and BARRY LEPATNER, author of Too Big to Fall: America’s Failing Infrastructure and the Way Forward.
