The New Jersey Assembly and Senate has approved a measure to ban smoking on public beaches and parks. The bill now goes to Gov. Chris Christie, who vetoed an earlier attempt two years ago, saying it should be a local decision.

Earlier in the week, the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium released a report that detailed the pounding New Jersey’s beaches took last winter from two major storms and a succession of several less severe disturbances. As a result, some Shore towns are still trying to recover from significant erosion.

Those events add up to the question, what’s in store for the Shore this season?

Justin Auciello runs Jersey Shore Hurricane News and writes the “Down the Shore” blog at NewsWorks. He’s always ready to talk about the beach, and he did so with WHYY’s Brad Linder.
