Ex-offender now cautions youth about pitfalls of street life
ListenIn the late 1990s, North Philly resident John Phillips owned delis, a tricked-out Lexus, and lived in an upscale condo.
Not bad for a young adult. But then the legal system caught up with the young hustler and sentenced him to a seven- to 20-year term at Graterford Prison in Montgomery County.
Now 44, Phillips is out and leading a very different life — mentoring young people and going for his master’s degree. He spoke about his transformation with NewsWorks Tonight host Dave Heller.
