Towards gender equality, at work and at home
ListenHour 2
Today, women comprise 51 percent of the workforce, make up the majority of college graduates and are the primary or co-breadwinners in most American households. Yet for a variety of reasons, they’ve yet to infiltrate the upper echelons of the corporate world. Our guests, MICHAEL S. KIMMEL and JOAN C. WILLIAMS, say that in order to achieve true gender equality, it’s time to rethink the concept of masculinity at home and at work. Michael Kimmel is a sociologist at New York’s Stony Brook University whose work focuses on the lives of men and masculinity. Joan C. Williams is a law professor at the University of California Hastings College of Law specializing in WorkLife Law.
