How to avoid catching the common cold, and what to do if you get it

Listen 00:48:43

Guests: Rob Danoff and Ellen Foxman

With winter weather comes cold and flu season. It seems everyone on the bus and in the grocery store has a nasty cough and a tissue in hand. We’ll bust some common cold myths, and talk about why it’s different from the flu with ROB DANOFF, the program director for the Family Medicine and for the combined Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine Residency programs at Aria Health System, in Philadelphia. And we’ll be joined by Yale University School of Medicine’s ELLEN FOXMAN, a medical researcher and clinical pathologist who studies how our bodies respond to common viral infections. She’ll talk about her recent research into how cold temperature change the way our immune system responds to the common cold virus.
