Superheroes, a giant lizard and the movies

Comic book heroes are taking over the big screen again this summer. Captain America: The Winter Soldier and the Amazing Spiderman -2 have stormed the multiplex and Guardians of the Galaxy and X-Men: Days of Future Past are not far behind. What’s the allure of these films for Hollywood and the public? And have we had enough of superheroes? Syracuse University’s ROBERT THOMPSON joins us for the conversation. Then, the giant lizard everyone loves to hate, Godzilla, is back. We’ll talk about his previous incarnations on film and what he says about science, world history and culture. We’ll turn to Penn professor FRANK CHANCE who teaches a freshman seminar on Japanese monsters in the movies.
