Pay-for-Performance in Education

    Should teacher salaries be linked to student performance? President Obama and Education Secretary Arne Duncan think so. They are pushing for merit pay, so-called “pay-for-performance,” in education but are facing a lot of resistance from some teachers and unions. This hour, debating performance pay for teachers with RICHARD ROTHSTEIN, a research associate at the Economic Policy Institute and JANET HANSEN, Vice-Presdient and Director of Education Studies for the Committee for Economic Development. And, a look at how pay for performance is working in Houston’s schools with CARLA STEVENS, the Assistant Superintendent of Research and Accountability for the Houston Independent School District.
