Health oversight and hydraulic fracturing

Last Monday, a group of health professionals and environmentalists raised concerns about the oversight of health complaints related to hydraulic fracturing in the state. The coalition asked for an independent audit of the Department of Health, and their handling of health concerns raised by Pennsylvanians living in areas in which Marcellus drilling occurs.  To give us an update on the ongoing controversy, we’ll be joined by StateImpact Pennsylvania’s KATIE COLANERI, who has been following the story.  We’ll then hear from two members of this coalition, DR. RUTH McDERMOTT-LEVY, the director of the Center for Global and Public Health at Villanova University, and ADAM GARBER, Field Director for PennEnvironment Research and Policy Center.  Then we’ll hear from RAINA RIPPEL, Director of the Southwestern Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project, about her organization, which responds to health complaints by residents affected by natural gas extraction.
