Getting America back to work: How to create new jobs

Next Thursday President Obama is expected to lay out his proposals for the creation of new jobs  he hopes will be met with bi-partisan support.  The issue of unemployment and job creation is highly politicized with Republicans charging the Administration is not doing enough and Democrats arguing that the President has been too cautious.   According to a report released in June by the McKinsey Global Institute, the U.S. needs to create 21 million new jobs by 2020 to regain full employment but recoveries are increasingly becoming “jobless” due to firm restructuring, skill and geographic mismatches between workers and jobs, and sharp decline in new start-ups.  So how do we get there?  Our guest BILL DUNKELBERG,  chief economist for the National Federation of Independent Business says employers, particularly those in small businesses, are hampered by  countless regulations that make adding new employees nearly impossible.  Wharton professor MICHAEL USEEM has written that the responsibility lies with corporate leaders  who need to “reset the business mindset: making people a priority, not just earnings”.  They join us this morning to share their perspectives on ways to get Americans back to work
