Frank Schaefer, same-sex marriage and the United Methodist Church

Listen

Frank Schaefer, Bishop Peggy Johnson and Tim Schaefer

Frank Schaefer was defrocked last year for officiating his son’s same-sex wedding in Massachusetts. Schaefer was the head pastor at the Zion United Methodist Church in Lebanon County, Pennsylvania until, in December, a church jury convicted him of violating church doctrine by performing the marriage. His story sparked a debate in United Methodist Church about gay marriage. Today, Marty sits down with FRANK SCHAEFER to talk about his difficult year and the discussion it fueled. We’ll also talk with BISHOP PEGGY JOHNSON of the Eastern Pennsylvania conference of the United Methodist Church, about the church decision, and TIM SCHAEFER, about his father’s decision and what it means to him
