The fate of the “beloved” Lusitania, which set sail for its final voyage on May 1st, 1915, is well-known: it was attacked and sunk by a German U-boat. Still, author ERIK LARSON unfolds the dramatic historical event with a surprising degree of suspense in his book Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania, just released in paperback. Larson folds human details drawn from telegrams and love letters with the politics of World War I, to give readers the feeling that they too are on the sinking ship. Guest host Mary Cummings-Jordan speaks with Larson about the book.
