Children exposed to domestic violence

In the United States, an estimated five million children experience domestic violence. These children are three times more likely to repeat what they’ve learned in the home, thus, perpetuating a cycle of violence in the family. Most victims suffer quietly, but in order to reach their full potential in life, there’s good reason to speak out. Dr. Dan Gottlieb is joined by Julie Campbell, Doug Block, and Brian Martin to discuss the effects of domestic violence on children and how to help young victims cope with what they’ve gone through.

Julie Campbell is a licensed clinical social worker and Coordinator of Trauma-Focused Projects at Children’s Crisis Treatment Center (CCTC).

Doug Block and Brian Martin are the director and executive producer of the documentary The Children Next Door, a powerful short film that tells the story of a young family struggling to overcome physical and emotional wounds from a brutal domestic violence incident that both shaped and shattered their lives. Additionally, Brian Martin is CEO and founder of Children of Domestic Violence Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping those who have experienced childhood domestic violence reach their full potential and break the cycle of violence.
