Bridging the military-civilian divide

Listen 00:49:57

Guests: Michael Miller, Winden Rowe and Jacinta Johnson

WHYY recently produced a multimedia series on the military-civilian divide. In an effort to bridge this gap, reporters met with area post 9/11 veterans and members of the veteran community to challenge stereotypes, explore ideas of service and how civilians can better understand veterans and vice versa. We are marking Veterans Day today. Marty will talk with MICHAEL MILLER, United States Marine Corps and Army veteran, poet and owner of Open Mike’s Internet Café in Chester, Pennsylvania. We’ll also talk with trauma counselor WINDEN ROWE, who will explain what PTSD looks like, and JACINTA JOHNSON, a Staff Sargent in the Air Force who retired in 2016 and now works now in Human Relations at the Veterans Multi-Service Center in Philadelphia.
