Breaking the cycle of homelessness: celebrating the work of Sister Mary Scullion

A conversation with Project HOME co-founder Sister Mary Scullion, who is stepping down from the acclaimed anti-homelessness organization after three decades.

Listen 51:43

For decades Sister Mary Scullion has led the fight against homelessness in our region,  co-founding Project HOME and building it into one of the country’s leading advocacy organizations. At the end of this month, she is stepping away from the organization she started over 30 years ago. But that doesn’t mean she’s stopping her activism — and it’s more important than ever. The number of people experiencing homelessness is on the rise around the country and in Philadelphia. And a new Supreme Court ruling criminalizes sleeping in public places even when no shelter is available.

Sister Mary joins us for an exit interview and reflect on her years serving the unhoused, the progress that’s been made and the work that stills needs to be done.
