The prisoner swap and US-Iran relations

A lot has transpired in recent days between the US and Iran, illuminating their current relationship following the implementation of the historic nuclear agreement. The countries engaged in a controversial prisoner swap, in which they agreed to release those held in captivity. Also, sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program have been lifted, but new economic ones have been imposed following the recent ballistic missile test. We begin the hour talking with JOEL SIMON, executive director of the Committee to Protect Journalists, about Iran’s treatment of both foreign and domestic journalists. We’ll then be joined by HALEH ESFANDIARI, public policy fellow at the Middle East Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, who was once held captive in solitary confinement in Iran, and by YEGANEH TORBATI who covers foreign policy, sanctions and national security for Reuters.
