Charges have been filed in a hit-and-run accident that left a teenage girl dead.

Monmouth County prosecutors say 49-year-old Toni Marletta, of the the Leonardo section of Middletown Township, was charged Wednesday with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a fatality and several motor vehicle violations. Her bail was set at $150,000 cash, and it wasn’t known if she has retained a lawyer.

The charges stem from a July 7 accident that caused the death of 15-year-old Morrissa Procopio. Authorities say the Atlantic Highlands teen was trying to cross Route 36 near Avenue D when she was struck. She was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township, where, despite significant medical intervention, she was pronounced dead on July 8 at approximately 3:46 p.m

Authorities say Marletta’s vehicle was found later that night parked outside her house, and it had damage consistent with the collision.
